Jurisdiction

The Office has jurisdiction over complaints from UNAM’s students and members of the academic personnel for alleged violations to the University Legislation.

Exceptions to OOAR’s Jurisdiction

The Office of the Ombudsman for Academic Rights’ jurisdiction is general, since the OOAR looks after the compliance with the University Legislation. Article 7 of the OOAR’s Statute lists the exceptional cases that fall out of OOAR’s jurisdiction. Such article relates to Article 13 of the OOAR’s Regulations which lists them as follows:

The exceptions to OOAR’s jurisdiction are :

I.   Collective labor rights (Union rights)

II.  Disciplinary resolutions

III. Individual Labor rights

IV. Academic evaluations of professors, judging commissions or technical and internal commissions or committees; and generally, about the academic personnel enrollment procedures, promotion and permanence.

V.  Violations that can be appealed in another forum as established by the University Legislation

The OOAR, being an independent organ, can set the limits of its jurisdiction.

Legal basis: Articles 7 of the Statute, and 12 and 13 of the Rules of Procedure, both set of rules govern the OOAR.
