Active participation in university life

a)  Freedom of speech

Students have the right to freely express their opinions on university matters. There are only two limits for this: a) that no university activity is disturbed and b) that the exercise of that freedom adjusts to the decorum and respect that this university and its members deserve.

b)  Right to petition

Student community members have the right to petition and to make requests, in writing and in a respectful manner, to university authorities and to receive an answer in a reasonable time.

In case any authority fails to respond, the OOAR may intervene, if asked to, in defense of the applicant´s right to petition.

c)  Right of association

Students have the right to freely organize and form societies with cultural, sporting, social or mutual aid purposes; university authorities shall cooperate with them.

d)  Right to vote to choose representatives and to form part of collegiate bodies at UNAM

Students have the right to vote to choose their representatives for the academic instances that admit such type of participation. Students also have the right to be elected to integrate collegiate bodies and representation positions.

The right to vote belongs to students of every educational stage: middle school, high school, college and postgraduate. Votes must be universal, free and secret.

The right to be elected enables the participation of students in the decision making of the university, collaborating as student representatives and collegiate body members to which they were elected, such as the University Council, Technical Committees, Academic Committees, Academic Area Committees and the High School Academic Council.
